White sage is used to cleanse and purify the space, the body and crystals or items that hold negative energy. Traditionally used in Native American ceremony, the smoke from a bound lit sage is brushed via Eagle feather to wash over the aura and call in the good spirits and banish the negative ones.
Light the leafy end of the smudge wand from a candle holding the stalky end. Let the flame blow out, leaving an orange glow and let the smoke blow around until the room get smoky. In modern Wiccan uses, we burn the sage anticlockwise to banish and clockwise to bring in. Work the room not only in your walking space but in nooks and crannies that would hold stagnant energy such as book shelves and behind cabinets. As Eagle feathers are forbidden for non-indigenous people, use your hand or alternative feather such as a dyed turkey feather to waft the smoke. Stub the sage out in an ash tray or in sand NOT WATER OR EARTH, giving appreciation to the herb’s sacrifice.
